WORKFORCE NETWORK OF KANSAS
Marketing Task Force Meeting
October 2,2002

Participating in the conference call: Kim Conlee, Local Area IV; Mary Ellen Conlee, Local Area IV; Glenn Fondoble, Local Area I; Kris Kitchen, Local Area II; Jim Stowell, Local Area V; plus Konnie Leffler and Barb Reavis, Workforce Network of Kansas staff

After self-introductions, Leffler and Reavis described what had occurred preparing to implement a statewide speaker's bureau. Of the Chamber offices with which Leffler has spoken, seventy-one percent have expressed interest in having a speaker. Not knowing how many speaking opportunities each Local Area was prepared to handle, Leffler reported she ceased generating business until we had speakers. The purpose of this call is to see how the effort should proceed.

Feedback from Local Areas included:
Don't expect to be ready until January to tackle making presentations (IV)
Have Chamber representatives on the Local Board who already know about programs (II)
Wagner-Peyser staff needs to know about all the employer services so they can refer (II)
Need to have something uniform to present (I)
Not sure how well the employer services message travels; will need to make sure the speaker knows where which services are available (I)
Information needs to be coordinated with local level and able to identify where services are (V)

It was agreed the Local Areas might use the Local Board meetings to recruit speakers. Participants gave their next meeting dates and described the process that would need to be followed to get something on the agenda. The goal will be to have a PowerPoint presentation and materials ready for review within the next couple meetings, preferably to be locally-customized prior to viewing by Local Boards. Leffler will work with the PowerPoint and the timelines of the Local Areas. Printed materials are being prepared by Kathy Ketchum and her staff at KDHR, with input from Leffler and Reavis to insure system focus.

Participants were not highly optimistic about being able to recruit 8-10 business representatives from their respective areas to serve as speakers. Reavis observed the focus with the Chambers might be recruiting them to be speakers/ambassadors rather than our presenting to them. In the meantime, it was suggested that Ken Bell, Chair of the Workforce Network of Kansas Board, be called into action to speak to Chambers and Local Areas may choose to forward the current requests to the One Stop nearest the requesting Chamber.

Leffler will follow up with Al Rolls, Local Area III, to get his feedback and ideas about the topic.

The meeting adjourned without a future meeting time and date.
