Minutes

Kansas Workforce Investment Partnership
Marketing Task Force
March 8, 2001

In attendance: Caleb Asher, SRS; David Brennan, Local Area II; Kathy Ketchum, KDHR; Shirley Martin-Smith, KWIP; Jim Stowell, Local Area V; Al Rolls, Local Area III; Marcia Webb, Local Area III; Barb Reavis, KWIP staff

Self-introductions were offered.

Rita Richardson and DiAnna Adams, Information Network of Kansas (INK), engaged the group in a card sorting exercise to assist in the development of a KWIP web site. Each meeting participant was given a set of cards with names of potential parts of the proposed site. They were to sort the cards into what was the logical order for that individual to access information. INK staff will use these results, along with what Reavis has provided, to design a site for KWIP and Local Boards to use. Reavis envisions board minutes, meeting notices, board membership to be among the pages available within the resourse site. Expected time to have it up and running is September. Marketing Task Force members will be asked to assist in testing the site before it is rolled out.

Reavis reported the Leadership Team empowered the Marketing Task Force to proceed with the RFP process and selecting an ad agency. The ad agency work may be presented to KWIP for acceptance.

Ketchum explained the status of the RFP process, which is being used to select an ad agency. The agency's first four priorities will be developing a logo, developing a style guide, developing a marketing plan, designing a brochure to present the overall Workforce Network of Kansas. The most likely date to have an agency secured is nearer June 1 than the previously predicted May 1.

Ketchum also described the current efforts to promote kansasjoblink.com. She showed the new layout of a brochure about kansasjoblink.com and took suggestions from the members about the need to publish materials and have the web site available in other languages, most immediately for the Hispanic population. It was suggested a tool called a "web site translator" might help with that transition.

Reavis reported Kansas Job Link registration is complete with the State of Kansas. The registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has been acknowledged but it will still be weeks before that process is finalized. Discussion arose around whether there was a need to register the name, Workforce Network of Kansas. Consensus of the group was that the cost was minimal, at less that $400, and KWIP should pursue that process as well.

No items remained from Old Business, nor were any brought forward under New Business.

The next Marketing Task Force meeting is scheduled for April 12, 10:00-noon and will be held at Topeka Workforce Center, 1430 SW Topeka Blvd.
